The Best Protection is Early Detection

Did you know that about 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime? Or, that there are currently over 3.1 million breast cancer survivors in the U.S.?

At Aylo Health, we follow the American Cancer Society’s recommendation that “all women over 40 years of age should have a mammogram performed annually” – one of the best ways for women to monitor their risk for breast cancer.

What is a mammogram?
mammogram is a low-dose x-ray procedure of the breast that allows visualization of the internal structure. This plays a key role in early breast cancer detection and helps decrease breast cancer deaths and can also be used for screenings or diagnostic purposes.

At Aylo, we also offer 3D mammograms – with our Pink Ribbon Imaging Facility being home to two of the state’s Genius 3D mammography machines. This advanced technology is proven to detect more invasive breast cancers and decrease inaccurate reports and false alarms. It is the single-most effective method of early breast cancer detection since it can often identify cancer several years before physical symptoms develop.

Now… maybe you’re asking, “Why should I get a mammogram? I’m perfectly healthy”. Well, research has proven that after 40 years of age, the risk of breast cancer increases drastically. And sadly, 7 out of 10 women in their 40’s who died from breast cancer did not have a mammogram. On top of that, 25% of those who’ve suffered from breast cancer showed signs or symptoms – meaning 75% of women showed no noticeable signs of having breast cancer; such as lumps or tightened skin.

While these facts may seem a bit frightening, mammograms should not be. The issue for most life-threatening cases of breast cancer has been that it’s found too late, already spreading throughout the body. And besides skin cancer, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among American women and is the second leading cause of death in women. Knowing it exists is just not enough. That’s why we want you to book your mammogram appointment as soon as possible because the earlier you discover the unexpected, the better chance of overcoming it.

In the past, Aylo has given free 3D upgrades in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness month. However, this year we are choosing to give back and support the Breast Cancer Survivor’s Network by donating 20 dollars for every mammogram performed at our Aylo Health Imaging Center during the month of October (up to $10,000). Along with our donations, we will be giving away a free gift at checkout to our mammogram patients.

In 2018, an estimated 266,120 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 63,960 new cases of non-invasive (situ) breast cancer. And though death rates have been decreasing since 1989, an estimated 40,920 women in the U.S. are expected to lose their battle to breast cancer this year. But, together we can make a difference.

Aylo Health has designed a comprehensive women’s healthcare for the way you live, providing the protection you need– with mammograms now covered by most insurances at no cost to you (excluding 3D mammograms), and our convenient weekday hours and Saturday appointments.
