Healthy Holidays

Wishing You Good Health and Cheer

Our board-certified providers believe an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. We know that celebrating the holidays in good health and good cheer is often easier said than done, especially since most festivities center on sharing a holiday meal with those special family recipes, sinful casseroles and decadent and tasty must-try treats.  But the holidays don’t have to be unhealthy.  Use the tips below to focus on finding the right balance of food, activity and fun for a healthier holiday season.

Bring something healthy to the party.

The sure way to guarantee there is something healthy is to bring it yourself.  Use the healthy holiday cooking tips enclosed to prepare dishes lower in fat and calories and help promote healthy holiday eating.

You are not a turkey, so eat until you are satisfied, not stuffed.

To avoid the temptation to over-indulge, don’t skip a meal and consider eating a healthy snack before you go out like raw vegetables, a piece of fruit or a glass of water to curb your appetite.

Pass it on.

Share the goodies and treats you receive with others.  It will decrease the likelihood of consuming a whole pie by yourself and allow others to share in the merriment of the holiday season.

Integrate exercise into the festivities.

Go on a walking tour of homes, plan a progressive dinner, or simply go caroling.

Center traditions around crafts, not just-food.

Take the focus off food by making wreaths, handmade cards, and crafts instead of cookies, candies, and edible goodies.
