Do I need to do anything differently from a normal X-ray for a digital X-ray?
Digital X-rays have technology that makes them work a little differently from normal X-rays, but the process is the same. The machine will scan the affected part of your body and either directly upload to the technician’s computer, or will be transferred to a computer. In many cases, digital X-rays can use less radiation to produce a similar or better quality image.
What should I wear for a digital X-ray?
You will be asked to remove any jewelry or metal items; however, digital X-rays require minimal preparation. You may want to wear loose clothing.
Does a digital X-ray require contrast dye?
Some X-rays require the use of a contrast dye so that certain parts of your X-ray will show up in a different color. The dye will be injected into you or given to you by mouth. Your doctor or the technician will provide you with more specific instructions about contrast material prior to your appointment if your X-ray.
How soon will I be able to see the results?
Images are available within a few minutes but your doctor will take time to review them and then schedule a follow-up appointment to discuss the results.
